CROSS ON FORGIVENESS HILL

Located in the northwest section of the ranch is Forgiveness Hill, one of the highest elevations in all of Kendall County. In 2003, Guy Hughes Senior was diagnosed with cancer.  During months of treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the idea of erecting a Cross atop the hill was born.  His son, Bud Hughes, realizing that his father was a very Christian person, wanted a Cross on top of the hill. Together they began to engineer a Cross that all people could enjoy. Bud used his years of oil field experience to plan and build the massive Cross with the help of local welders, engineers and friends.
By May of 2004 this tribute to Christianity had begun.

The building process included boring a four foot wide hole 15 feet deep, welding together 30 inch pipe weighing more than 100 pounds per foot, placing the 90 foot structure into the ground, and cementing it with six yards of concrete. There stood a 75 foot tall, 34 foot wide Cross for all to enjoy! Upon being pronounced cancer-free, Guy came home to the Happy H and with help from the community completed the Cross. Floodlights at the base illuminate the Cross at night, making it a striking landmark. At a dedication service on the hill, a plaque was placed at the foot of the Cross.
The inscription was written by Guy Senior and reads as follows:

The beauty and grandeur of this Cross sitting atop Forgiveness Hill cries out in witness to the power and perfection of God, the Creator. This is no doubt that God is real. How do we know? It simple logic, just look around … Do you see any two people exactly alike?  Look up at the sun, the vast sky, the stars – the entire universe that extends without end. This is God’s creation that happened by design, not by accident. Look at the trees, the flowers, the earth that God has created to sustain life. He has done this with a specific purpose in mind. God created each of us individually, and He stays with us day and night yearning for our love. Could you love everyone unconditionally as He does, regardless of our sins and transgressions? Could you offer the world forgiveness, grace, hope, unconditional love, and salvation? Of course not.

GOD CAN, GOD DID, AND GOD WILL.  SO WE, HIS CHILDREN, DEDICATE THIS CROSS
TO THE GLORY OF GOD.
